Creating an accessible museum
It is important to us that our visitors can enjoy Shoemakers Museum without difficulties.
The museum contains a brand new suite of galleries in a modern purpose built building adjoining a historic Georgian house and Medieval barn building.
As we approach opening we will provide full information here about our services and facilities, guidance and support and the staff assistance available to enable your visit to be an inspirational and enjoyable one.
Parking
All museum visitor receive passes for free parking in Clarks Village Car Park II.
Clarks Village car parks have disabled parking spaces close to the museum entrance. There are no time restrictions on free parking for blue badge holders – providing these are displayed correctly, clearly and are in date. Disabled guests are also able to park in any space if all accessible spaces are full, with the exception of marked coach and minibus bays.
Level Access to the ticket office and Shoemakers Cafe
There is level access from the car park to Shoemakers Museum. It is approximately 120ft (or c. 40m) from the car park to Shoemakers Museum and cafe.
Access within the Museum Galleries
The museum galleries are laid out over two floors. There are a couple of steps to the ground floor galleries and an alternative long ramp access. The first floor galleries are accessed by a flight of stairs and there is also a lift access between floors suitable for wheelchair users. UPDATE: 4 March the lift is currently undergoing maintenance and will be unavailable for use until Tuesday 10 March.
Toilet facilities
There are accessible toilets on both sides of the museum building and on both floors. Please note there no toilets in the archives for those on a behind the scenes tour.
