School visits and outreach

The museum will be welcoming school visits when we open in September. Local schools and colleges are currently helping to develop a vibrant learning programme. Resources include handling boxes, history trails, interactives, talks, tours and a dedicated education learning space.

Informal learning and community engagement

In the 200-years that have passed since the creation of Clarks shoes first Petersburg slipper, the world has seen trends in footwear come and go, and come again! From Desert boots to sandals and first shoes, we have walked, marched, strode and sashayed through an ever-changing world.

Home educators, community educators, education groups of all ages will be welcome to use the museum education hub where activities and resources will be available for self-guided learning.

Family Days Out

There is something to do for all the family at Shoemakers Museum. Discover the shoemakers. Step into their world of shoemaking from the early days of hand making to the hustle and bustle of factory life. Find out how shoes have changed over time, and what shopping for shoes was like in the 1950s and 1980s. Then take a dive into pre-history – an undersea kingdom of sea dragons and marine fossils. Have fun with interactives and most of all play.

The education hub is open to families to come in and enjoy when schools are not visiting.

Enjoy a pitstop in the family friendly cafe. The menu is suited to all ages.
