Summer Stories: Family Journal‑Making Workshop

Capture the magic of your summer before it slips away. Join us for a relaxed, creative family craft session where children and grown‑ups work together to make their own end‑of‑summer journals — a place to treasure memories, drawings, ticket stubs, pressed flowers, and all the little moments that made the holidays shine inspired by the village albums.
Families can explore different ways to record their summer adventures, from beach days and picnics to new friendships, favourite games, and unexpected discoveries. Artist Katherine O’Shea will lead this incredible session.

No experience needed, just bring your curiosity and imagination. Whether you are looking for a creative outlet, a Summer Holiday  day out with the children, an enjoyable experience or a way to meet others, this workshop offers a fun guided activity, and the joy of being creative together.

Come for the art, stay for the community!

Materials are provided but you are welcome to bring your own materials to add and personalise your journal – perhaps a ticket stub from your favourite day trip or a photo with your family or besties!

Get creative alongside your little ones

Designed to be a gentle fun activity, these intergenerational workshops use the familiar format of a stay-and-play group to encourage everyone to get creative alongside their family members in a child-friendly environment. If you are seeking inspiration, support, or just a fresh way to engage with your family, these classes offer a meaningful, inclusive space for all.

In each session, we make our own sketchbooks, and we try out a new technique such as drawing, collage, and wax relief, with the classes being minimally tutored to allow time to relax and be imaginative.

While children play and explore with mess-free drawing materials, the adults can enjoy time creating alongside them in their sketchbooks.

The classes are also suitable for older children, and for home educators, where caregivers bring children of multiple ages e.g. siblings.

Katherine O’Shea – Artist

Katherine is an illustrator and artist from Somerset. Her practice is focused on drawing, with an emphasis on detail and a strong foundation in observational sketching using traditional mediums.

Katherine has a first class degree in Visual Communication (Illustration) and completed her art foundation at Central Saint Martins, as well as a residential course in Illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has been a published children’s book illustrator since 2012.

In addition to her illustration work, Katherine teaches a range of creative workshops for different levels and ages. In her botanical art classes, she employs techniques learned from studying with the Royal Kew Gardens’ Artist-in-Residence alongside more accessible methods from contemporary illustration, so that everyone can find a way of drawing that feels right for them.
