Outdoor theatre, new museum trails, journaling and art workshops, fossil days, and mural making plus a big summer celebration to mark Shoemakers' first anniversary

Visitors are invited to join a season long celebration of the Shoemakers’ community culminating in a party to celebrate our first anniversary year.

Join us for a Summer of fun for all the family with trails, theatre, crafting, murals, journaling and more as Shoemakers’ Museum transforms into a hub of community.

Daily activities – Sole Summer scavenger hunt – can you find all the clues in a trail through the museums galleries?

Thursday’s are mural making days. Come and add your mark to a growing community mural inspired by people, place and memories that make a village feel like home. With the fabulous artist Jon Minshull to guide us. By the end of the Summer, the mural will stand as a modern portrait of life in Street and will be on display during our birthday celebrations.

Somerset Earth Sciences will be visiting for Fossil Thursday sessions on 6th and 20th Aug,  sharing their love of all things geology and the archaeology beneath our feet in the fossil gallery. With collections to handle, quizzes, and experts on hand to answer all your questions.

On Wed 26 Aug Create a summer journal in a workshop to capture the magic of your summer before it slips away. Join us for a relaxed, creative family craft session where children and grown‑ups work together to make their own end‑of‑summer journals — a place to treasure memories, drawings, ticket stubs, pressed flowers, and all the little moments that made the holidays shine, in a process inspired by the village albums. Families can explore different ways to record their summer adventures, from beach days and picnics to new friendships, favourite games, and unexpected discoveries. Artist Katherine O’Shea will lead this incredible session.

Pirates ahoy! its outdoor theatre – The Rum Tale of the Moonfleet Diamond, with Tor Theatre – are performing in the day on 4 and 29 Aug – Free family theatre in the gardens of the museum for you to drop in and enjoy, or bring a picnic and make a day of it.

The Summer Exhibition is called Paths Taken – the extraordinary journeys that some of the archive collection shoes have taken before they joined the museum’s collections. The Exhibition opens on 1 August. Interested in finding out more? book your tickets to an curators talk on 14 August.

Big Day Out – help us celebrate our first anniversary as a public museum! Bouncy castles, animals and donkey rides, lawn games, live music and more. We’ll unveil the community mural and celebrate our first birthday! Join in the fun.

Shoemakers Museum is open daily 10-4pm. Under 8s go free all Summer and museum tickets are just £5 for under 25s.
