Wassail, Wassail at Shoemakers

An afternoon of celebration, song, music, theatre and a dash of Somerset mischief. Free event for museum pass holders

The tradition of Wassailing is an ancient custom which is believed to originate from the Anglo-Saxons, and the words ‘waes hael’ means ‘good health’. So what better way to beat the Winter blues and ground yourself in the crisp outdoors with a warming winter celebration.  Wassail is a Somerset Tradition to give thanks to the orchard. So we celebrate with lashings of apple juice cider, cake and good cheer. With song, theatre, storytelling and music. This is a family celebration everyone can enjoy together.

It is our first as Shoemakers Museum and continues a long tradition of this popular and inclusive annual celebration in the orchard at the Grange in Street, Somerset.

The Museum is open to the public, this event is free for museum ticket holders. Remember your museum ticket gives you year-round entry to the museum and access to events and activities like this one.

Once again there will be prizes for the best festive Wassail crown. So get creative with your decorated hats and you might win a prize!
