Shoemakers Museum is supporting Heritage Open Days 2025 with two talks celebrating Somerset’s shoemaking tradition and the opening of Shoemakers Museum.

To celebrate the opening of Shoemakers Museum and 200 years of shoemaking in Street join us at Strode Theatre for an evening of talks diving into the craft, heritage, innovation, sustainability and materiality of British shoemaking. A TED-Style talk with some leading figures in shoemaking.

 

Designing The Future from the Past
Friday 19 September 11am – 12noon
at Shoemakers Museum 

Meet the architect behind the Museum and discover how the design of this new landmark building in Street celebrates the rich history of shoemaking.

In this exclusive event for Heritage Open Days, Alasdair Ferguson from Purcell Architects in Bristol, will take you on a journey into the design intent behind the creation of Shoemakers Museum from initial concept to final construction.
